Tubeworms Dead and Alive

Join us in Victoria!

This fifth symposium, co-sponsored by InterRidge and NEPTUNE Canada, will provide researchers with an opportunity to review recent advances in the study of ecosystems that depend on organic matter production by chemolithoautotrophic microorganisms. Major fields of research to be represented include:

  • biogeography
  • biodiversity
  • evolution
  • symbioses
  • ecology
  • physiology
  • biogeochemistry
  • microbiology
  • recent technological and methodological developments.

Since the 1st Hydrothermal Vent Biology Symposium (Portugal, 1997), the scope of reducing habitats represented at these symposia has expanded to include cold seeps, whale falls and sunken wood. This expansion in interest was reflected in the naming of the 4th symposium in Okinawa, Japan(2009) to include all Chemosynthesis-Based Ecosystems (CBE).
